Workshops
Gardening is something we can all enjoy no matter your skill level. Our workshops are a great way to discover new areas of gardening in a hands on way, and bring your creation home with you. Workshops are great for everyone including kids and adults. Platt Hill Nursery's knowledgable staff members are here to help you learn and create something wonderful. Here is our workshop schedule for 2012. We look forward having you visit us for some of these great events. Create Your Own Backyard Bird Feeder
February 18th - 10 a.m.
Pick one of our two simple and organic designs for bird feeders and put it together yourself. Also learn about all the different ways to invite birds into your yard. There will be a fee of $5.00 for each bird feeder created. This is a great one for the kids too!
Learn How to Make a Fairy Garden
February 25th - 10 a.m.
Come in and plant up an indoor fairy garden. Fee is dependent on the material used in your fairy garden or come in and observe for free.
Design and Make a Hanging Basket
March 17th - 10 a.m.
Design and make your own hanging basket with our design team!! Leave your hanging baskets with us to grow until it’s time to hang outside. Come back and check on your basket weekly. Fee is dependent on number of plants used in your hanging basket.
Easter Egg Hunt
April 7th - 10 a.m.
Bring in the kids for an Easter Egg Hunt. The Easter Bunny loves to make a special appearance to take pictures with all of the little children. Make sure to stop by to have your photo taken. The Easter Egg Hunt is rain or shine, and will be held indoors in the event of poor weather. No Fee.
Spring Preview & Open House Weekend
April 14th &15th
The wait is over! Spring is here and its time to get back out into the garden. Our spring preview is a great time to take a look at new plant varieties for the year. Stop in to see what’s new and on sale!
Container Gardening, Cool Weather - Part 1 of 4
April 21tst - 10 a.m.
Start off the season by planting cool season annuals in one of your favorite containers. This one is a lot of fun!! Bring a friend or group of friends and let the creative juices flow, its a great time to relax and enjoy gardening. Make sure to bring back your container for Part 2 of our container gardening seminars. Fee is dependent on the number of plants you select for your container, and the cost of your container if you choose to purchase a new one.
Pot a Mom’s Day Planter!
May 5th - 10 a.m.
Surprise Mom with a planter from you!! Plant up a 6” clay pot with flowers for Mom, and watch her enjoy its beauty as the flowers and summer come to life. Plant it now, and keep your present hidden in our greenhouse until your ready to pick it up in time for Mother’s Day. Fee is $5.00 for each planter made.
Container Gardening, Warm Weather - Part 2 of 4
June 9th - 10 a.m.
Part 2 of 4 of the container gardening classes. Spring is near its end and it's time to get those containers ready for summer. Where are many great annuals to design with. Get them ready and let them thrive during the summer. You may bring back your container to replant from part 1, or find a new one to plant up a container of flowers that you'll enjoy through the rest of spring and summer. Remember you can bring back any of your containers for Part 3. Bring a friend, this one is fun!! Fee is dependent on the number of plants you select for your container, and the cost of your container if you choose to purchase a new one.
Platt-a-Palooza Weekend
Septmber 1st - 3rd
It's that time again for great fun and savings. This is an event for the whole family. Food, Fun, and Fantastic Savings! Come in for specials and to test your luck your turn at spinning the Wheel of Savings! Everyone’s a winner!
Container Gardening, Fall - Part 3 of 4
September 8th - 10 a.m.
Part 3 of 4 of the container gardening classes. Summer's fading fast and its time to embrace autumn's color and splendor. Mums, asters, kale, corn stalks, and pumpkins are all part of harvesting the spirit of this season. Bring back your container from parts 1 & 2, or buy a new one to prepare with flowers and accents for fall. Make sure to keep your container handy to bring back for Part 4. Bring a friend, this one is fun!! Fee is dependent on the number of plants you select for your container, and the cost of your container if you choose to purchase a new one.
Plant a Pumpkin Planter!
Oct. 6th - 10 a.m.
Watch and learn how to transform a pumpkin into a beautiful fall planter. You can either watch or jump in and create you own with us! Bring the kids! This event is a lot of fun for all ages. Fee depends on the pumpkin and plants used to create your planter.
Make a Scarecrow
Oct. 6th - 10 a.m.
You bring the clothes and we’ll supply the straw, twine and the area to let the creative magic happen. Don't have anything lying around? The thrift store's a great place to find some clothes for your spooky creation. This is one of our most popular events! Don’t forget your camera. Fee is $5.00 for each adult scarecrow, $2.50 for each child scarecrow.
Paint a Pumpkin
Oct. 20th & 21st - 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Pick a pumpkin from our patch, we're sure it'l be a perfect match! We've got the art studio ready for painting to create a silly or spooky masterpiece! Painting is FREE if you purchase your pumpkin from us. Remember to bring an extra shirt if painting.
Costume Contest & Trick or Treating
Oct. 27th - 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Witches, Wizards,and Gouls. Get dressed up and stop by for some trick or treating, and have you photo taken for our costume contest. Costumes to be judged on spookiness, scariness,and adorability.
Holiday Open House
Nov. 9th - 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Enjoy a relaxing evening with friends while browsing or vast selection of ornaments and decorations for the holiday season. We serve some light refreshments to enjoy while you browse. It's an entire evening of spirit, fun, and a great time to make custom orders for all of your holiday decorating needs. Stop in for savings on Christmas décor and have some light refreshments.
Holiday Open House Weekend
Nov 10th & 11th
This weekend is dedicated to getting the holiday season started right, and is a great time to enjoy a relaxed shopping experience before the hustle of the holidays arrive. This weekend is a great time to put in custom pot of greens (POG), cone of greens(COG), wreath, planter, and bow orders. Stop in for savings on Christmas décor.
Container Gardening, Winter - Part 4
Nov. 17th - 10 a.m.
Part 4 of 4 of the container gardening classes. Autumn's gone and the magic of the holidays is alive. Decorating with fresh cut greens has been a tradition for centuries. Bring back your container from parts 1, 2 , 3, or buy a new one to create a container of fresh evergreen branches to enjoy through the winter. Bring a friend, this one is fun!! Fee is dependent on the type, and quantity of greens that you select for your container, and the cost of your container if you choose to purchase a new one.
