Workshops
Gardening is something we can all enjoy no matter your skill level. Our workshops are a great way to discover new areas of gardening in a hands on way. We look forward having you visit us for some of these great events. If you have any questions about the seminars you can contact Mike in Bloomingdale, or Erin at the Carpentersville location.

Bushel Basket Fall Planter
August 31th - 10 a.m.
September 1st - 11 a.m.
Summer is near its end and it's time to get those containers ready for fall. There are many great annuals to design with. Get your fall blooming annuals ready and let them thrive during the cooling fall temperatures. Bring a friend, this one is fun!!

Create a Decorative Concrete Leaf Casting
September 21st - 10 a.m.
Let our staff help you make a concrete version of your favorite leaf, large or small. You will pick it up or paint it the following week.
Fee: $15
Create a Decorative Concrete Leaf Casting
September 28th - 10 a.m.
Stop in to add the finishing touches, and paint your leaf from last week’s workshop. If you don't wish to paint, stop in to pick up your leaf from last week.
Plant a Pumpkin Planter!
October 5th - 10 a.m.
Come in to watch and learn how to transform a pumpkin into a beautiful fall planter. You can either watch or participate! Bring the kids! This workshop is lots of fun!
Fee: $20, free to observe
Make a Scarecrow
October 12th - 10-12 a.m. & 2-4p.m.
You bring the clothes and we’ll supply the straw, twine and the area to let the creative magic happen. Don't have anything lying around? The thrift store's a great place to find some clothes for your spooky creation. This is one of our most popular events! Don’t forget your camera to snap some pics of all the fun.
Fee: child scarecrow $2.50, adult scarecrow $5.00
Paint a Pumpkin
October 19th & 20th - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Pick a pumpkin from our patch, we're sure it'll be a perfect match! We've got the art studio ready for painting to create a silly or spooky masterpiece! Painting is FREE if you purchase your pumpkin from us. Remember to bring an extra shirt for painting.
Costume Contest & Trick or Treating
October 31st - 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Witches, Wizards, and Ghouls. Get dressed up and stop by for some trick or treating, and have your photo taken for our costume contest. Costumes to be judged on spookiness, scariness, and adorability.
Create a Winter Planter - Carpentersville Only
November 16th - 10 a.m.
Autumn's gone and the magic of the holidays is alive. Decorating with fresh cut greens has been a tradition for centuries. Bring back your container from fall and create a container of fresh evergreen branches to enjoy through the winter. Bring a friend, this one is fun!!
Fee: $29 or $39

Create Your Own Backyard Bird Feeder
February 9th - 10 a.m.
We will be making the classic pinecone bird feeder and a milk jug feeder. Make sure to bring a few empty milk jugs to the siminar. Learn about all the different ways to invite birds into your yard. This is especially fun for the kids so bring everyone you know!

Worm Bin Composting
February 16th - 10 a.m. at Bloomingdale
February 16th - 2 p.m. at Carpentersville
Don’t throw kitchen scraps in the garbage, let your worms eat them and create ultra-rich compost for the garden. Create your own worm bin to take home. Worms included.
Fee: $20

Learn How to Make a Fairy Garden
February 23rd - 10 a.m.
Check out some of these great examples!
Come in and plant up an indoor fairy garden. They are simple to design and lots of fun to create.

Design and Make a Hanging Basket
March 16th - 10 a.m.
Design and make your own hanging basket with our design team!! Leave your hanging baskets with us to grow until it’s time to hang outside. Come back and check on your basket weekly.

Make Your Own Spring Planter
April 20tst - 10 a.m.
Start off the season by planting cool season annuals in one of your favorite containers. This one is a lot of fun!! Bring a friend or group of friends and let the creative juices flow, its a great time to relax and enjoy gardening. Make sure to bring back your container for Part 2 of our container gardening seminars.

Professional Tool Sharpening
April 6th - 9am-12pm at Bloomingdale
April 7th - 2pm-5pm at Carpentersville
Spring is the best time to get your garden tools in tip top shape. We will have a professional sharpener stopping by. Cash or check only and prices vary by tool. Yes! He does kitchen knives and scissors too!

Pot a Mom’s Day Planter!
May 4th - 10 a.m.
Surprise Mom with a planter from you!! Plant up a 6” clay pot with flowers for Mom, and watch her enjoy its beauty as the flowers and summer come to life. Plant it now, and keep your present hidden in our greenhouse until your ready to pick it up in time for Mother’s Day.
