Planter #1

  • Lemon grass
  • Ivy
  • Mums
  • Crotons
  • Cabbage (Red & Pink)

Lemongrass provides height for the center of the planter. It’s a multi-purpose plant that can be cut and added to recipes and beverages for lemon flavor. Ivy adds trailing to the bottom of the planter and offsets the pop of yellow with the mums & crotons. Ornamental cabbage and kale and takes on a red & pink hue.

Planter #2

  • Japanese blood grass
  • Petunias (pink & white)
  • Zinnias (yellow)
  • Ornamental peppers (red)

Japanese blood grass is a perennial plant. You could try transplanting the Japanese blood grass from your planter in the ground after using it in the planter. Making sure you mulch around it. In the Spring, see what comes up.

Planter #3

  • Tricolor of cabbages including Kale for different foliage texture
  • Pansies in red, yellow, pink, orange

Planter #4

  • Celosia
  • Textured kale
  • Purple mums
  • Dusty Millers
  • Pansies in purple

All plantings are new growth for fall, not leftover from spring/summer. The deep red celosia will continue to grow in height. Interesting kale adds texture. Dusty Milleradds a pop of white against the purple and green. Dusty Millers prefer the cooler months and will transition to winter planters of evergreens and birch sticks.

Planter #5

  • Spikes
  • Textured kale
  • Ornamental peppers in green & yellow
  • Petunias (purple & white)
  • Pansies in orange

Spikes are tried and true and add height planters. Textured kale also adds height. Ornamental peppers add an unexpected use of color for visual interest. Petunias and pansies add the seasons traditional orange and yellow color.
